How dental implants can save your smile

You’ve had a tooth removed and now you’re wondering how to replace it. It’s easy to imagine you will never smile again. Will you have to dental implantslive with an incomplete, gapped smile? Dr. Charles E. Scholler and Dr. Daniel Cronk in Somis, CA want you to know a lost tooth isn’t the end of your smile! It’s time to consider a dental implant to replace your lost tooth and save your smile.

Thanks to the modern technology of dental implants, you don’t have to settle for conventional tooth replacement options like bridgework, partials or a denture. A dental implant is a much better solution for many reasons. Drs. Scholler and Cronk want you to know when you choose a dental implant, you can count on:

  • Beauty, because dental implant crowns are made of translucent porcelain
  • A natural appearance, because they look just like your teeth, only better
  • Permanence, because your implants are locked in place by bone
  • Convenience, because you clean them just like natural teeth
  • Satisfaction, because you can eat the foods you want
  • A high success rate, over 95 percent, the highest of any surgical implant!

When you choose a dental implant placed by your Somis dentists, you have chosen a conservative treatment. Unlike bridgework, Drs. Scholler and Cronk don’t have to prepare the teeth around the implant, only the implant area. Because they are made of porcelain, dental implants resist staining and remain beautifully white and sparkling. They also don’t ever decay!

A huge benefit to dental implants is they help you retain a youthful face, by conserving the bone in your jaw. This gives you a firm jawline and more youthful facial contours. In contrast, dental appliances like dentures can put pressure on your jaw, causing your bone to disappear, a process called resorption. Over time, your face will begin to sag. Dental implants can help you avoid bone loss and remain looking younger.

A lost tooth isn’t the end of your smile. It’s time to invest in saving your smile with dental implants. It’s time to call Dr. Charles E. Scholler and Dr. Daniel Cronk in Somis, CA. Get your full, beautiful smile back with dental implants by calling today!

Tags: Graft

If your dentist has recommended you have a grafting procedure done, you may have several questions about it, including "What exactly is a graft?" or "Why do I need this done?" Dr. Charles Scholler and Dr. Daniel Cronk, dentists serving Camarillo, California, have the answers to your questions about grafting.Graft

Skin graft

This involves the grafting of gum tissue from one area of the mouth to another. The palate, or roof of the mouth, is most often used as the donor site, although material from a tissue bank or proteins to stimulate the growth of tissue can also be used. Gum grafting is commonly used to combat the effects of severe gum recession; when the gums have significantly receded away from the teeth, sensitivity and even tooth loss can occur. By rebuilding the gum surface, your Camarillo dentists can help improve your overall oral health.

Bone graft

If your jawbone has receded due to tooth loss, decay or trauma, a bone graft may be necessary, especially when further restorative treatments, like dental implants, are needed. The location of the donor site will depend on the density of your bones in a particular area. Some patients have grafts from the bones in their chin; others may benefit from the use of a portion of the hip bone, which contains marrow that promotes the fusing that bone grafts need to be successful. Like gum grafting, there are also proteins that promote the growth of bone from other cells, as well as donor banks that use bone from cadavers or cows for the graft.

Basic surgical information

Both gum and bone grafting are considered dental surgery, with bone grafting being more in-depth. They will require the use of anesthesia that will make it necessary for someone to drive you home after your procedure. Your Camarillo dentist will provide you with antibiotics, pain management medication and specific instructions for aftercare. These instructions will include how to clean the surgery site and foods you should avoid during the healing period. For gum grafts, patients can expect healing to take one to two weeks. For bone grafts, it will take about a month, although it will take several more months before the graft is "set" for further restorations.

Want to know more about implants and the advantages of getting this restoration? Find out now!

When it comes to tooth replacement treatments, your Camarillo, CA cosmetic dentist, Dr. Charles Scholler, knows you have many options. Of course, if you are looking for a lifelong restoration than look no further than dental implants. Find out more about this Dental Implantscosmetic procedure and how these tiny restorations can do big things for your smile.

Get a Lifelong Restoration

Even though nothing is as good as natural teeth, you’ll be impressed to find that implants are a close second. When it comes to function and appearance, you will not find another dental restoration in Camarillo that’s as good as implants. That’s because implants are made from durable titanium and function just like natural tooth roots.

Plus the implant is biocompatible, which means that it will naturally fuse together with bone and tissue to become a permanent structure in your mouth, which no other restoration can do. With the proper care, an implant can last the rest of your life!

Boost Your Self-Esteem

It probably goes without saying that when you having missing teeth, you feel self-conscious about your smile. No one wants colleagues, friends, and family to notice their incomplete smile over what they have to say, and implants will not only restore your smile but also your overall appearance. Being scared to smile will be a thing of the past.

Feel Confident in Social Situations

Again, when you are dealing with tooth loss you may find that you cancel plans with people or you avoid speaking to coworkers or clients. Whatever the case may be we understand that being social is an important part of being human and that everyone needs that.

Because implants are permanent restorations, you don’t have to worry about them slipping around in your mouth like you would with dentures and you don’t have to worry about taking them out to clean them. Enjoy eating all your favorite foods and talking to anyone again. No one will even be able to tell that you have implants.

Improve Your Oral Health

Tooth loss can wreak havoc on your oral health. It causes bone deterioration, gum recession, and shifting teeth. No one wants to deal with even more issues for their smile. Preserve jawbone health and your natural facial structure, and prevent the rest of your teeth from shifting out of place when you get dental implants.

If you want to get dental implants in Camarillo, CA, then it’s time you scheduled a consultation with us. Call Charles E. Scholler, D.D.S. and let us know that you are interested in getting implants. We would be happy to setup a consultation.

Dental BondingWorried that improving your smile will involve too much hassle and expense? Bonding may be the simple and affordable solution you’re looking for.

Charles E. Scholler, D.D.S., an experienced cosmetic dentist in Camarillo, has used bonding to help many satisfied patients achieve a smile they love. Bonding is one of the most commonly performed dental procedures, and it can usually be completed in a single office visit.

What is Dental Bonding?

Bonding is a cosmetic procedure used to repair teeth that are chipped, cracked, discolored, or slightly decayed. It may also be used to fill in small gaps between teeth or to change the overall shape of the teeth. During a bonding procedure, durable materials are attached to the tooth’s surface to improve its appearance. The materials match the color of your teeth so the completed work will look natural.

Is Bonding Right for Me?

For minor cosmetic concerns, bonding is a simple and affordable alternative to veneers, crowns, or orthodontia.

  • Common issues treated by bonding include:
  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Discolored teeth that do not respond to whitening treatments
  • Slight gaps between teeth
  • “Short teeth” or worn-down surfaces
  • Minor decay

While bonding is often an ideal method for making minor alterations, it may not be the best choice for more severe or extensive issues. Schedule a free consultation with Dr. Scholler in his Camarillo office to find out if bonding is the right option for you.

Caring for Your Bonded Teeth

After your bonding procedure, it’s important to take good care of your newly restored teeth. In addition to brushing, flossing, and seeing your dentist regularly, make sure to avoid chewing on hard foods or objects that may chip the bonding material.

Keep in mind that the composite material may stain more easily than the natural tooth. To avoid staining, it’s best to keep a close eye on your intake of substances such as coffee, red wine, and cigarette smoke. If you’re a frequent consumer of these substances, you may wish to consider other treatment options to prevent uneven discoloration.

The longevity of this solution depends on your oral hygiene habits, the extensiveness of the repairs, and the type of material used. Generally, you can expect your treatment to last anywhere from three to seven years, and Dr. Scholler can make any necessary touch-ups or repairs during a routine office visit.
